Are you holding a grudge? About?
Musing about what a grudge means and what holding a grudge feels like, I find myself confused because I don’t actually have that feeling anymore. I used to experience grudges, but I think somewhere along the way, I decided to stop!
Now, if any ‘negative thoughts’ of that sort come to mind, I ground myself. This shift has left me pondering: what exactly is a grudge?
PsychCentral describes holding a grudge as “when you can’t let go of feelings of anger or resentment towards someone who wronged you.”
I’m glad to verify that Stoic philosophy has worked its magic on me 🙂
I’ve come to understand that I’m responsible for my actions and reactions, not for external factors beyond my control.
As Marcus Aurelius wrote, “The best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury.”
I’ve realized getting attached to the past is futile and unwise. I’m better off accepting what cannot be changed and focusing on my inner self.
